Infineum to Spend $20 Million on Carbon Reduction

By Simon Johns - Aug 15, 2023

Specialty chemicals company Infineum says it will spend U.S. $20 million per year until 2033 on carbon reduction efforts across its global operations. The company plans to spend the money on capital improvements to manufacturing facilities to optimise production and cut emissions. The announcement came after the company published its third annual sustainability report.

The company is aiming for net zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions from its owned and operated assets by 2050.

Infineum has sites in the Europe, the Americas and Asia. At its Singapore plant, optimisation of its calcium sulphonate centrifuge achieved a 75% reduction in water consumption. The process resulted in water usage savings of 17,520 cubic meters per year.

The company also achieved an 80% reduction in refrigerant losse. This is equivalent greenhouse gas savings of more than 8,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent globally.
