U.K. lubricant company Castrol launched its own hybrid engine oil performance standard called Hyspec. According to the company, it is a first-of-a-kind benchmark to measure the performance of its hybrid engine oils.
Demand for hybrids is growing around the world among drivers who are concerned about their carbon footprint and fuel consumption but still have range anxiety or insufficient access to charging infrastructure. Goldman Sachs predicts that one in four cars sold by 2025 will be hybrids of one variety or another.

While not an oil specification – which is typically devised jointly by industry standards organisations, original equipment manufacturers and lubricant companies – there is no specific industry standard for hybrid engine oils.
