Infineum has split operations into two business units to develop products for new energy vehicles and enhance new business. The company hopes the split will boost operational efficiency and streamline decision making.
Infineum is one of the big four international suppliers of lubricant additive packages, alongside Lubrizol, Afton Chemical and Chevron Oronite. Each company has had to develop strategies to navigate a future with less demand for automotive lubricants, which represent a mainstay of their businesses.
Infineum’s new business unit includes Sustainable Transportation, which will develop additives and other chemicals for personal mobility and commercial engine applications. Its focus will be on reducing the carbon impact of conventional engines and development of alternative fuels.
The other unit, Energy Applications, will drive growth of existing and new business, including carbon-resilient segments and other business segments new to the company, said the company in a press release.
It will focus on three functions: enabling electrification through development of advanced fluids and axle gear oils; improving the efficiency of conventional fossil fuels in industries and infrastructures where electrification and decarbonization are progressing more slowly; and new business development with a focus on innovation and growth in battery technology development and electrification.
