Calculating the Cost of Carbon Emissions

By Simon Johns - Aug 20, 2021

We just received the final results of the data we have been collecting, with varied degrees of success, over the past weeks. This data has been tabulated and calculations made byour environmental consultant Fokus Zunkunft figured we’re mid-range for a company our size. This initial results are we’re not too bad, but with space to improve.

What happens next will be working out how much carbon we emit and selecting which projects we would like to offset our current footprint. They range from forest protection to renewable energy projects and cooking stoves.

It is important to point out that there are in fact seven greenhouse gases, not just carbon dioxide, even though we usually talk about carbon or CO₂. There is also methane, nitrous oxide, hydrogen-containing fluorocarbons, perfluorinated hydrocarbons, sulfur hexafluoride and nitrogen trifluoride.

According to Fokus Zukunft, the effects of these gases are converted into CO₂ equivalents (CO₂e) depending on the damage that they have on the climate.

Watch this space for the next stage of the process and our final announcement.
