CNOOC-Shell Plans PAO Plant in China

A petrochemical joint venture in China between China National Offshore Oil Corp. and Shell has licensed technology from Neste for a polyalphaolefin plant to be built in Huizhou City, Neste announced on Wednesday.

South Korean Base Oil Exports Fall

South Korea exported 6% less base oil September, but the declared value of the product exported rose 10%, compared to the same month last year, according to data released by the Korea Customs Service.

Merger for Caldic, Connell Specialty Units

Private equity investment firm Advent International and Wilbur-Ellis announced last week they are merging their life sciences and specialty chemicals businesses, Caldic B.V., and Connell. The latter is a major player in Asia-Pacific, and its products include specialty ingredients used in products such as metalworking fluids and greases.

Sales of four-wheel automobiles in Southeast Asia reached 296,498 in August, a 72% increase from the same month last year, according to Asean Automobile Federation data. Through the first eight months of this year, sales were up 31% at 2.2 million, compared to 1.7 million for the same period last year.
