U.S. Base Oil Output Flat in October

Base oil production in the United States was flat in October, with a 1% increase in paraffinic production offset by a 9% decline in naphthenic production. October’s total was 4.4 million barrels, just the second time since 2015 that the month came in under 5 million barrels.

Brazil Base Oil Imports Jump

Brazil imported 26% more base oil and exported 8% less base oil in November than in the same month last year, according to data released Dec. 29 by a government agency.

Vibra Rejects Offer, Will Consider Others

Vibra Energia, one of Brazil’s largest lubricant suppliers, recently rejected a merger offer from Eneva, calling the proposal insufficient. But Vibra said it would consider better offers, and the company reportedly has since retained an advisor for evaluating such solicitations.

Lwart Environmental Solutions engaged Santa Ana, California-based Chemical Engineering Partners to design the expansion of their existing rerefinery in Lencois, in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Scheduled to come onstream in 2025, the expansion will increase the plant’s API Group II base oil production by 50%. The rerefinery was originally designed by CEP and began operation early in 2013.
