Brazil Base Oil Imports Jump

Brazil imported 26% more base oil and exported 8% less base oil in November than in the same month last year, according to data released Dec. 29 by a government agency.

The South American country imported 76,000 metric tons of base oil in November, compared to 60,000 tons. The 76,000 tons was the third most base oil imported in a month this year, behind 114,000 tons in October and about 90,000 tons in August.

Year-to-date through November, Brazil’s base oil imports volume rose 6% to 750,000 tons, compared to 705,000 tons.

Most of Brazil’s base oil imports – primarily Group II – originate from producers in the United States.

Brazil’s base oil exports decreased to 6,000 tons in November, compared to almost 7,000 tons.

During the January-November period, the country exported close to 77,000 tons, a 21% decline from 97,000 tons in the same period last year.
