Engine Test Problem Triggers Provisional Licensing

The American Petroleum Institute announced that an engine sequence test included in most active North American passenger car motor oil specifications is on hold and that the organization has invoked provisional licensing so formulations yet to take the test can still temporarily qualify as compliant. The ASTM D6709 Sequence VIII test measures weight loss of copper bearings and oil viscosity loss due to mechanical shear.

Sales Up for Clean Harbors, HCC

Clean Harbors’ Safety-Kleen Sustainability Solutions segment and rerefiner Heritage-Crystal Clean’s oil business segment both reported higher sales revenue for the quarter ending Dec. 31 and for the full year.

Saudi Arabian Oil Co. completed its acquisition of Valvoline Inc.’sglobal products business for $2.7 billion, through one of its wholly-owned subsidiaries. Aramco now owns the Valvoline brand with respect to the products business, and Valvoline Inc. owns the Valvoline brand with respect to its retail services business. The companies said they plan to work together to continue to grow the Valvoline brand equity globally.
