API’s Lubricants Group represents the oil industry in developing and maintaining consensus standards for lubricants. Its programs include the Engine Oil Licensing and Certification System (a voluntary licensing and certification program for automotive engine oils) and Motor Oil Matters, which ensures a secure chain of custody for motor oil from oil marketer to distributor to installer to vehicle.
