New Options for a Smooth Transmission
Two new manual transmission fluids have been added to Phillips 66s line of commercial lubes. The synthetic lubricants are designed for use in heavy-duty transmissions operating in extreme temperatures for extended service intervals. Both products are approved for service fill under the new Eaton PS-386 specification. Our Triton Synthetic MTF and Kendall SHP Synthetic MTF were developed to provide excellent shear stability and antiwear properties to protect synchronizers, reduce component wear and promote longer transmission life, said Tony Negri, the companys director of marketing for commercial lubricants. Ester Swap
Nyco presents its alternative in the face of dwindling global supply of C8/C10 acid. Nycobase 9300 synthetic ester is a highly refined neopolyol ester with low acid and hydroxyl numbers, and a high level of biodegradability, the company says. Technical performance will not vary from that of TMP C8/C10 ester, especially in industrial applications such as gear oils or automotive lubricants like engine oils. No change in formulation is required, other than switching from one ester to the other

Less Ash for Low Sulfur
Castrols new cylinder oil is designed for marine vessels operating in emissions control areas using low sulfur fuels, including liquid natural gas. Cyltech ACT uses ash control technology to minimize the risk of ash buildup – a problem when burning low sulfur fuel oil, the company says. The product delivers excellent ring-zone cleanliness and has letters of no objection from the major marine engine manufacturers. Cyltech ACT will be available in Singapore, Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp and key U.S. ports by the end of the first quarter, with other countries and ports following throughout the year.
