ELM Ropes in VGP
Environmental Lubricants Manufacturing is producing a biobased wire rope grease from renewable vegetable oils. The company says its aluminum complex grease, which meets the Vessel General Permit, offers good water washout resistance and a high degree of natural lubricity. ELM Wire Rope Grease comes in NLGI grades 0 and 1, and is approaching conventional grease prices because of the companys microwave based processing, says company president Lou Honary. Fuel Dilution Prevention
Spectro Scientific says its fluid analysis technique has been certified by the new ASTM International standard D8004, Test Method for Fuel Dilution of In-Service Lubricants Using Surface Acoustic Wave Sensing. Patrick Henning, chief technology officer at Spectro Scientific, explains, Fires can and do result from fuel seeping into a hot lubricant line and igniting. Thus, this test method can have significant economic and human impact. Icy-Tough Diesel Improver
Field-tested for several months on the ice roads of Alaska, Lubrication Engineers says its Full Torque diesel fuel improver increases power, improves fuel economy, reduces emissions and provides smoother performance in diesel engines. The product is formulated to work with all types of diesel fuels in use today and is available in winter and summer versions. LE says its product increases a fuels cetane number up to three numbers, resulting in faster ignition time, more power, easier starts and less smoke at startup. New EcoDiesel Option
EcoDiesel vehicle owners, rejoice! Oildepot Canada has developed a fully synthetic SAE 5W-30 engine oil meeting the Chrysler MS-11106 specification for Dodge Ram 1500 and Jeep EcoDiesel engines. The company says its engine oil will deliver cold-cranking protection in arctic conditions while resisting oil consumption and viscosity loss in extreme heat. There are precious few motor oil options for Dodge EcoDiesel engines, so this Amsoil product will be a game-changer for many, said Oildepot Canada owner Marc Roden. Hydraulic EAL
ExxonMobil is producing a readily biodegradable synthetic hydraulic oil that it says can help improve energy efficiency by up to 3.6 percent. According to the company, Mobil SHC Hydraulic EAL meets EU Ecolabel standards and is non-bio-accumulating. Its shear stable, high viscosity index allows it to perform in a wide range of temperatures, and the lubricants cold start capability can also help to protect pumps and reduce energy consumption at start up, says the company. Ester Replaces C8/C10
Due to limited availability of raw materials, global chemical manufacturer Oxea has replaced its C8/C10 acid based trimethylolpropane ester with its Oxlube L9-TMP. Used in engine oils, gear boxes and other applications, the company says the L9-TMP is a direct replacement for the C8/C10 product that offers the same performance with constant availability. Oxeas Vice President of Derivatives Cristobal Ascension said its new products, of which L9 is one, are produced on purpose and have no capacity constraints to fulfill market demand globally. Chevron Cleans Up
Chevron Products Co. has launched a national program that combines certified lubricants and in-plant services to prevent particle contamination of in-service lubricants and operating systems. Chevron says its IsoClean certified lubricants meet a specific ISO cleanliness code, which is assured on-site by a national network of certified providers. Services include fluid purification and dehydration, varnish removal and mitigation, high velocity flushing, reservoir and tank cleaning, condition monitoring and system audits, and fluid handling consultation. Engine Oils Span Climates
Russias Gazpromneft Lubricants has introduced a line of engine oils created for use throughout the diverse regions of Russia at temperatures ranging from -35C to 45C. Gazpromneft Premium N 5W-40, a full synthetic motor oil for gasoline and light-duty diesel vehicles, is intended for city driving. Portable Hydraulic Fluid Filtration
Kaman Distribution says it has improved its hydraulic fluid filter cart, which is suitable for lubricants, quenching fluids, coolants, synthetic oils, petroleum-based fluids and others. The system is capable of filtering particles down to four microns, the company claims – the smallest particles that can be removed without stripping the beneficial additives out of the fluid.
