Salary Survey 2014

A huge Thank you! goes to the 465 U.S. lubricant industry executives who responded to our 2014 Lubricants Industry Salary Survey. Thanks to these anonymous plant managers, sales/marketing executives and laboratory/R&D/technical executives, we are able to bring you our biannual reports on U.S. lube industry compensation. Thank you!

This month we feature plant managers compensation. In November, well look at sales and marketing, and in December well wrap up the 2014 reports with lab, R&D and technical managers compensation. The complete detailed report will be available for purchase starting Dec. 1 at our web site: www.LubesnGreases.com.

Ninety U.S. lube plant managers reported their annual compensation this year, with a median of $110,000, virtually unchanged from 2012. As has been the case since we started this survey, median compensation is significantly higher at lubricant manufacturers ($125,000) than at distributors that do not manufacture lubes ($82,750).

This years respondents differ from those who replied in 2012. For example, this year, 30 percent report working for mid-size companies with 101 to 500 employees, compared to just 20 percent in 2012. And only 17 percent work for the largest firms (over 500 employees), down from 28 percent in the last survey. Perhaps reflecting this shift, the average number of people supervised dropped from 34 in 2012 to 27 this year.

If you plan to use the 2014 Salary Survey results in any way, either as an employer or a job seeker, I urge you to obtain the complete report. It will show all of the compiled results for both 2012 and 2014, with compensation by tenure, employer size, geographic region and more. There are significant differences in compensation based on these factors and others, and the data thats relevant to you or your company might differ sharply from the highlights in our magazine stories.
