Lube Management Made Visual
OilSafe announces a bulk system for fluid storage and dispensing, created to help manage lubricants used at sites such as manufacturing, mining, food and beverage, and defense installations. The OilSafe Work Center has a built-in pump and filtration and uses a visual system to prevent fluid cross-contamination, the company points out. It keeps fluid storage areas safely organized and free of 55-gallon drums. The system is available in multiple configurations and can be customized to a variety of setups. Users can select from aluminized steel tanks holding 30, 65, 120 or 240 gallons; 10 colors for tanks and identification labeling; and pneumatic or electric pumps. The system accommodates lubricants up to IS0 680. Web: www.fluiddefense.com
Open-gear Lubes Go From Arctic to Sahara
Bel-Ray has added ultra-heavy and extra-heavy grade lubricants to its line of Molylube SF100 semi-synthetic open-gear lubricants. These products are for use in open-gear applications, such as mining draglines, shovels and heavy industry, at temperatures as low as minus 58 degrees F. Bel-Ray says it formulated the lubes with a semi-synthetic base and aluminum complex thickener to provide excellent extreme-pressure and anti-wear capabilities, rust resistance and corrosion protection. In field evaluations, the company adds, the lubes can offer up to 35 percent lower cost-of-ownership versus competing products, when purchase price, lubricant consumption and component life are considered. All eight grades are Caterpillar-certified, too. Web: www.belray.com
Instrument Gauges Low-Temp Properties
The ISL MPP 5Gs from PAC boasts of being the only analyzer that can determine three critical tests for cold-temperature properties of petroleum products: cloud point, pour point and no-flow point. These properties are important for a range of operations, from blending plants to lubricating oil and fuel systems. PACs instrument complies with ASTM D7346 and D7689 standards. In addition, the company says, the ISL MPP 5Gs runs analysis three times faster than conventional systems, requires little operator training and can run up to 10 samples with minimal attendance due to its built-in sample changer. The analyzer requires only a 0.5-milliliter sample. Web: www. paclp.com
Viscosity Modifier Has NSF Nod
Anew additive, V-508F, from Functional Products is a viscosity modifier for esters and vegetable oils that is said to be more cost effective than blown oil. The thickener is NSF registered for use in food-processing applications where incidental contact may occur (H1), and is compatible with a range of vegetable oils and esters. V-508F contains a shear stability polymer as its active additive and is inherently biodegradable under all widely used standards. It eliminates the need for multiple ISO base stocks, says the company, and can also be used in grease for water spray-off protection. Web: www.functionalproducts .com
Data Reveals Global Trends
Kline Groups LubesNet is a comprehensive database of finished lubricant demand at the global, regional, country, market segment, product category, product type and viscosity grade levels. The freshly updated seventh edition covers data from 2004 to 2012, plus trends to 2016 and 2021. What is the current demand for SAE 0W-XX motor oils in the United States? How fast is 2T/4T engine oil demand growing in Asia-Pacific? Who are the leading consumer automotive lubricant suppliers in China, and what are their market shares? Kline says the database helps answer these questions and more. This year LubesNet has added over 13 new countries, too. The database is available by subscription at www.klinegroup.com/ reports/y634e.asp.

Grease Handles Harsh Service
Almamoly HD grease from Lubrication Engineers Inc. contains a blend of solid lubricants and calcium sulfonate thickener and is said to withstand extreme temperatures, heavy loads and exposure to water. The grease contains Almasol, the companys proprietary solid additive, plus 5 percent molybdenum disulfide. Typical applications include articulated trucks, backhoes, bulldozers, conveyors, crushers, excavators, loaders and shovels. An NLGI 1 grease, Almamoly HD comes in 14-ounce tubes, 15.9-kilogram pails and drum-size bulk containers. It can be used in automatic lubricators and centralized lubrication systems. Biobased Fluids for Marine Uses
Kluber Lubrication has unveiled Kluberbio LR 9, a series of synthetic, readily biodegradable hydraulic fluids which it says offers performance at least equal to that of mineral oil products. The fluids are said to have good viscosity-temperature behavior and a low setting point that enables them to be used where temperatures vary considerably. The LR 9 series resist hydrolysis, so they provide longer oil change intervals and reliable operation even in wet environments. The oils are based on synthetic esters are intended for use in mobile hydraulic systems in the marine and offshore industries. They are over 60 percent biodegradable after 28 days, and meet the requirements of ISO 15380, Bosch Rexroth RE 90221-01 and Swedish Standard SS 15 54 34. Web: www.klueber.com
Gear Oil Package Meets USS Spec
Ida-Soil G from Ideas Inc. is an industrial gear oil additive that the company says passes the requirements of U.S. Steel 224. It has also passed 13 stages of the rigorous FZG test. The additive does not contain chlorine and can be used in API Group I, Group II and PAO base stocks. Recommended treat level is 1.8 percent by weight, 1.5 percent by volume, the Lombard, Ill., company adds. Web: www.ideasadditives.com
Agitators Fit in Tight Spots
Side-entering agitators from Chemineer are for use in tanks that are too tall for a top-entering agitator or where headroom is severely limited. The gear-driven agitators use precision machined, surface hardened spiral bevel gear sets, high-capacity tapered roller bearings and heavy-duty output shafts to maximize service life. The Prochem PB and MD belt-driven agitators also provide easy maintenance in a broad range of applications, says the maker, including corrosive and abrasive environments, pulp and paper, and oil storage. The agitators come with a variety of options for gearing and bearings, shafts and seals, housing and lubrication, belt drives and guards, and shut-off configurations. Web: www.chemineer.com
