HyperZDP Safeguards Catalysts
Lubrizol has patented a new lubricant additive technology, HyperZDP, which offers extended emission system life without sacrificing engine wear protection. Conventional zinc dithiophosphate (ZDP) additives provide good wear protection, but have been linked to degradation of catalysts. Field and laboratory tests demonstrate that HyperZDP solves that conflict, just in time for next years ILSAC GF-5 engine oil upgrade. The HyperZDP System is the right technology at the right time, comments Lubrizols Jim Puckace. Our technology not only stays off the catalyst to protect the emission system and reduce tailpipe emissions, but also stays in the engine to protect against wear. Cut Foam and Metal
Henkel has unveiled two new water-soluble Multan metal removal lubricants, formulated to generate minimal foam and be used continuously for years with minimal biological degradation. Many metalworking operations experience problems with foam, which leads to fluid overflow and waste, and with bacteria growth that creates odors and degrades the fluid. Both Multan B 236 and Multan B 414 are semi-synthetic fluids for machining and grinding operations. The former excels on cast iron and steel, and rejects tramp oil. For soft metals and exotic alloys, B 414 contains more oil and additional EP additives. Both offer superb wetting and even perform where soft water or process requirements make foam control difficult, says Henkel. Web: www.henkelna.com/multan
Penetrate and Protect
Krylon Products new Tri-Flow industrial lubricant effectively penetrates inaccessible areas to deposit lubrication and displace contaminants. Applications include bearings, cables, nuts and bolts, air power tools, ball and socket joints, conveyors, cutting tools, drive chains, electric power tools, gears, glides, hinges, linkages, taps, dies and more. The unique formula contains premium oils, micron-sized synthetic particles, PTFE, and additives that ensure lasting protection, says Krylon. It deposits a film to reduce friction and wear, inhibit rust and corrosive buildups, and displace moisture, dirt and contaminants. Web: www.kpg-industrial.com
Clean Your Fluids
The Oasis portable coalescer, new from Zebra Skimmers, separates tramp oil and fine particles from water-based metalworking fluid to increase its life and reuse, lower consumption rates and cut overall costs. The Oasis improves on and replaces Zebras Adapt and Snapdragon models, and incorporates many features requested by customers. These include an on/off lever to activate the air pump; indicator gauges placed for easy viewing; and labels that quickly identify filters and gauges. The system also incorporates an odor control capsule, plus the Sidewinder tube skimmer for the most effective oil removal. Web: www.ZebraSkimmers.com
Toms Secret: Veggies
Camie-Campbell is shipping Toms Secret Formula to stores now. The biodegradable line includes five alternatives to petroleum based lubricants. Formulated with natural vegetable oils (renewable and grown in the United States), the long-lasting products contain no chemical solvents. The Toms line is said to be safe for all metals and tailored to a variety of uses. B-404 is an all-purpose lubricant, excellent for loosening rusted or frozen bolts and nuts. Truckers Lubricant takes on hinge pins, tracks and rollers on roll-up doors, and cargo loading docks. Theres also a garage-door lubricant, a cutting oil and a pipe-thread lube. Web: www.camie.com
Drive-over Drain Cover
New Pigs drive-over Drainblocker is designed to stand up to heavy traffic – even tankers, trucks and fork-lifts – while providing drain protection indoors or out. Because the Drainblocker resists punctures, tearing, abrasion and UV rays, and is durable enough for repeated use, it can be a key part of preventive and emergency response plans. Its patented rubber HogHyde skin protects the urethane sealing layer to ensure a tight, reliable seal on virtually any surface, says the company. Drainblocker resists water, oil and many chemicals (as per 40 CFR 112.7 and 122.26), and can eliminate the need to frequently deploy and remove a temporary cover or to permanently seal a drain. Purity and Performance
Oil Purification Systems (maker of the OPS-1 on-board fluid cleaning system) and analytical expert Polaris Laboratories have teamed up to offer the OPS Tru-Test fluid analysis program. Fluid analysis provides a snapshot of what is happening inside equipment installed with an OPS system, and allows users to safely extend engine oil drain intervals, extend equipment life and minimize downtime. It can identify minor problems before they become major failures, the companies say. By partnering, OPS will provide access to the Class 8 truck and heavy-duty equipment segments of the transportation and construction industries, while Polaris brings to customers its state-of-the-art labs and high level of accreditation. A Better Penetrometer
The accuracy and repeatability of results from a penetrometer – essential for testing grease consistency – are highly dependent upon the operators ability to position the test probe on the surface of a sample. Petrolabs new Petrotest PNR-12 penetrometer elminates that variable with a fully automatic surface-detection system. It uses one or both of two surface-detection technologies (force measurement and conductivity) to precisely position the test probe. The PNR-12 also has a new jog-wheel to improve manual positioning when needed; audible and visual displays and alarms; and the ability to directly output results to a printer or store them on a memory stick via a USB port. Oilography Tracks Samples
Every oil analysis system needs a way to track your samples, review test results, respond to alerts and schedule action, and thats what 24/7 Systems Oilography web service aims to do. Oilography is a tool to streamline oil sample analysis as part of a plants condition-based maintenance program. It begins on site, as samples are scheduled, collected and bar-coded. Sample analysis results can then be transferred electronically from the lab to the analyst for review, saving time and reducing errors. The Oilography process keeps problem samples highly visible until a corrective work order is issued, and a complete history of sample results can be accessed for viewing and trending via the internet. Stability for Cutting
Rustlick Ultracut 255A is a heavy-duty, high-performance water-soluble oil. With chlorinated and non-chlorinated extreme-pressure additives, it provides unbeatable corrosion protection and great lubricity, says the maker. It is suitable for all ferrous metals and hard-to machine alloys, and for limited use on aluminum, brass, bronze, copper and titanium. The fluid is formulated to be highly resistant to bacteria and fungus. It also provides strong emulsion stability – important for environments with hard-water problems. The light-brown, viscous fluid concentrate is available in 5- or 55-gallon containers. Web: www.rocol northamerica.com
Take Skimming Lessons
Abanaki is offering Oil Skimming 102, an online video tutorial on selecting the right oil-skimming product. Skimmers deliver a variety of benefits, and remain the most inexpensive way to remove oil from water and reduce fluid disposal costs, it says. They save coolant by removing tramp oil and also conserve wash water by removing oily wastes. In many cases, skimmed oil can be recycled as a lubricant or fuel. The tutorial aims to help users make the best choice in a skimmer, explaining how they vary and how to specify the correct Abanaki product. View it at www.abanaki.com/054
