Tribology Pioneer Leaves Lasting Legacy
The June 8 session of the Lubmat Conference started on a somber note as we learned of the death of H. Peter Jost. The assembly observed a moment of silence in the memory of Jost, who was a tireless advocate for the discipline of tribology and is largely credited with raising global awareness of the field.
Jost, who died peacefully at the age of 95, was generally regarded as the Founding Father of Tribology. In 1966, he published the Jost Report, which was acclaimed worldwide and changed the way industry and science approach the question of friction and wear. He was dedicated to advising governments, industry and science on the cost-saving benefits of the application of tribology.
Jost served as President of the International Tribology Council and was a Life Member of Council of the Parliamentary & Scientific Committee at Westminster and also an Honorary Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and of the Institute of Materials. He will be sorely missed.
On a lighter note, what is your impression of the ads in this issue? Our advertisers are interested in hearing your feedback. And to help, weve engaged Readex Research, a U.S.-based marketing research firm, to ask you briefly about your perceptions of the ads in this July 2016 issue. The purpose of the survey is to help advertisers communicate more effectively with LubesnGreases Europe-Middle East-Africa readers through their ads.
In early July, Readex will email a randomly selected group of subscribers. The emails, from LNG@readexsurvey.net, will include a link to the survey and will show a picture of each ad. You will be asked three simple questions about each: Is this ad attention-getting? Is this ad believable? Is this ad informative?
If you receive an email, thank you for opening it and taking a few minutes to complete the survey. If you have any questions, please let us know. We will share the results of the survey in a future issue.
