Marine Lube Gains Wrtsil OK
Chevron Marine Lubricants 100BN cylinder oil, Taro Special HT 100, has received approval for its use in products made by Winterthur Gas & Diesel Ltd. (formerly Wrtsil Switzerland Ltd.). The approval allows the continuous use of the oil in Wrtsil RTA, RT-flex and W-X engines as well as in Sulzer 2-stroke engines operating on fuels with sulfur contents in the range of 2.0 to 3.5 percent. Taro Special HT 100 is available across the Chevron Hallmark Ports network, in addition to its standard ports worldwide.

Grease Is Safe Near Water
Lubrication Engineers Inc. has introduced Earthwise EAL wire rope grease, a certified Environmentally Acceptable Lubricant, recommended for use in applications on or near waterways. The company says it meets the specifications required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agencys Vessel General Permit; is readily biodegradable, exhibits minimal aquatic toxicity and will not accumulate in the cells of fish and other aquatic life forms. Earthwise EAL wire rope grease is an NLGI 0 grease to coat wire rope as well as moving chain and cable parts.

Ester Base Stock
Nyco has introduced Nycobase 9300 synthetic ester as an alternative to esters based on C8/C10 acid, which is in short supply. Nycobase 9300 is a highly refined neopolyol ester that the company says has very low acid and hydroxyl numbers. The ester is for use in industrial applications such as gear oils or automotive engine oils. Nycobase 9300 exhibits high biodegradability per OECD 310B and is available in bulk and packs.
