Arctic Blast

Swedish base oil and specialty lubricant producer Nynas AB has developed an Arctic grade transformer oil called Nytro Polaris GXN. The company says that it can withstand the most extreme climate conditions and temperatures as low as minus 25 degrees Celsius. Transformer oil must be stable across a wide operating temperature range and be a total insulator. Nytro Polaris GXN oil complies with Canadian Class A CAN/CSA-C50-14 specification, a stringent standard that regulates mineral oils in power transformers, especially those subject to cold start-up or that have forced oil cooling, Nynas said in a press release.

The company also released Nynas S 3B, a highly refined base oil with virtually no aromatic content, no odor and with a flash point above 100C, according to Gaia Franzolin, Nynas global marketing manager of naphthenics, in a press statement. Nynas S3 B is suitable for metal removal applications such as grinding, honing and lapping, as well as low-viscosity industrial lubricants, including spindle oils. www.nynas.com
