Ingredients for Food-grade Lubes

Croda has gained HX-1 approval for Priolube 2500, an ISO 100 highly oxidatively stable ester, and Priolube 2088, an IS0 320 medium oxidatively stable ester. HX-1 is a category of raw materials that can be used in H-1 food-grade lubricants, products that are safe in applications where the possibility exists for incidental contact with food or beverages.

The company says its range of products for such applications now includes esters, polyalkylene glycols (PAGs), fatty acids, and an anti-corrosion additive. The base fluids and additives can be used in chain oils, greases, gears oils, hydraulic fluids and other lubricants for the food processing industry.

Hydraulic Filtering Station Removes Dirt, Water

The Johnsen Oil Hydraulic Station filters particles and removes both free and bound water from hydraulic fluids. The company claims that the station provides oil quality level NAS Class 5-6 or ISO-Code 4406: 15/12/10-17/15/12. It also reduces water content down to 150 parts per million.

This machine is available in models with flow rates of 250, 500, 1,000 and 1,500 liters per hour per filter. Filters can be mounted in parallel for increased or optimized filtration volumes.

ExxonMobil Introduces 0W-30

ExxonMobil Lubricants and Petro-leum Specialties has launched Mobil 1 ESP 0W-30 synthetic lubricant technology. The company says that the motor oil has the potential to improve fuel economy by 2.6 percent, while optimizing engine protection and supporting the use of exhaust emission technologies.

Mobil 1 ESP 0W-30 has been engineered to help prolong the life and maintain the efficiency of emission systems in both diesel- and gasoline-powered vehicles. Its low-ash formulation helps reduce particulate build-up, and its low sulfur and phosphorous content prolongs the life of catalytic converters. Available to Mobil 1 franchised car dealers, Mobil 1 ESP 0W-30 has gained BMW LL-04 approval for use in the full range of BMW vehicles.

UEIL Leaflet

Following European Commission adoption of the new Block Exemption Regulation for the automotive industry, the Competition Committee of the Independent Union of the European Lubricants Industry has produced a leaflet addressing common questions on the topic. The leaflet describes the legal framework concerning the purchase and use of lubricants in the European Union.

Available in English, French, German, Dutch, Italian and Spanish, the document has been distributed by UEIL members throughout Europe with a view toward helping dealers, garages, repair shops and end users to understand the workings of the new regulation. The association says the leaflet reassures lubricant users that they benefit from significant freedom of choice in their purchase and use of lubricants and other functional fluids.

Cylinder Lube Montitor

KRAL AG says that its Volumeter and electronic system provide optimal regulation of cylinder lubrication oil in oceangoing vessels. In most ships, the volume of lubricating oil has not been regulated but has been estimated from injector geometry. According to KRAL, its measurements show that significant discrepancies can occur between the actual figures and engine manufacturer specifications.

Over-lubrication damages pistons and cylinders, and unused oil ends up in the used oil tank via the overflow oil line. By avoiding both of these things, KRAL says, the Volumeter provides major savings in ship operating costs.
