Kluber Lubrication has introduced readily biodegradable high performance lubricants for the maritime and offshore industries. These lubes are said to protect the environment against oil pollution in the event of leakages into the sea. Kluberbio RM 2-100 and Kluberbio RM 2-150 are non-toxic, stern tube oils for fixed-pitch and controllable-pitch propellers. They are compatible with the elastomeric materials of most commonly used seals so that propeller shaft seal life expectancy remains unaffected.

Kluberbio EG 2-150 is a gear oil for use in thrusters and rudder propellers. This synthetic oil is also compatible with elastomers commonly used in this application. Kluber says that Kluberbio EG 2-150 has high scuffing resistance and shows superior service life and viscosity-temperature behavior compared to conventional mineral oil-based gear oils.

Phosphorus Additive Fights Wear

Adeka Corp. has introduced Ecoroyal LX-2663, a phosphorus antiwear additive with no acid value, high thermal stability, and strong resistance to hydrolysis and corrosion. The additive can be used in engine oil, gear oil, metalworking fluid, hydraulic fluid and grease.

Based on orthophosphoric esters, Ecoroyal LX-2663 has a phosphorous content of 11 percent by mass. It has a density of 1.3 g/cm2 at 15 degrees C, acid value of less than 0.1 mg KOH/g, and a flash point of 326 degrees C. The company says that the additive provides excellent antiwear performance at very low dosages (about 100 ppm).

Greases for Latest Equipment

Shell Lubricants has launched a new range of Gadus greases for use in new equipment operating in extreme conditions. Shell Gadus S3 T460 and Shell Gadus S5 T460 (previously Stamina 0511 and Stamina HDS) are extreme-temperature, extreme-pressure greases for use in steel mill applications. These greases have diurea thickener and additives to reduce the impact of oxidation, while increasing antiwear and anti-corrosion performance, even under extreme heat.

Shell GadusRail S4 HighSpeed EUFR (previously Nerita 2858) is an advanced railroad axle box grease that provides reliability, long life and good sealing capabilities for the latest generation of high-speed trains. Shell Gadus S2 V20XKD, S5 V460 and S5 U100KD are multipurpose, extreme-pressure greases for the latest generation of heavy-duty mining equipment.

Closure Aids Controlled Pouring

Bericap has developed a three-piece closure with an extra-long spout and two separate flow controls (marguerites) for use on Stihl chain saws. The company says the closure system guarantees controlled pouring of lubricant to make the refill process easier. The closures enable saw users to access the lubricant tank without spilling.

To protect the Stihl-branded oil, the closure has three tamper evident systems: a ring at the closure that is linked to the canister; bridges that need to be broken before the spout closure can be opened; and a tear-off membrane at the end of the spout.
