Shell is laying off 17 of the 71 full-time employees at its lubricant plant in Brockville, Canada, at the end of August, a company spokesperson confirmed to Lube Report.
Our Brockville plant is part of our lubricants business in North America. For that business to be competitive, sometimes we have to make tough choices to manage costs and in this particular case, some employees lost their jobs, a Shell spokesperson told Lube Report.
The spokesperson said the plant is the largest blender and packager of retail passenger car motor oils in Canada, manufacturing multiple lubricants products, most bearing the Shell, Quaker State and Pennzoil brands.
According to Shell Canadas web site, the Brockville, Ontario, lubricants plant consists of a lubricant oil blending facility, automated packaging lines and distribution warehouse.
The web site said the plant is highly automated, producing about 200 formulations of automotive, aviation and industrial lubricating oils for Shell customers in both domestic and international markets. The plant also supplies lubricants for many leading private-label customers.
