BASF, Oxea Raise Prices

BASF has raised prices on carbonates, and Oxea has increased prices for solvents, as rising raw material costs continue to impact the chemical industry.

Ludwigshafen, Germany-based BASF on Monday announced that effective immediately or as contracts allow, it would increase the sales prices for several carbonates – ethylene carbonate S, propylene carbonate S, carbonate mix 50 and carbonate mix 60 – by up to 100 per metric ton for deliveries to Europe and up to U.S. $100 per metric ton or equivalents in local currencies for deliveries to North America or Asia. BASF cited increasing raw material costs as the primary reason for the price increases.

Carbonates are chemical intermediates used in the lubricants, foundry, polyurethane and coatings industries. BASF operates a world-scale plant for the carbonates at its Verbund site in Ludwigshafen.

Oberhausen, Germany-based Oxea on Aug. 17 said that effective Sept. 1, or as contracts allow, it would increase off-list prices on a variety of solvents – butanol, butyl acetate, propanol and propyl acetate – by 8 cents to 9 cents per pound in the United States, Canada and Mexico, and by $176 per metric ton to $198/mt elsewhere.
