Master Chemical (Shanghai) Co. is constructing a second metalworking fluids manufacturing plant in China, in northernTianjin, to meet growing demand. The company is part of Perrysburg, Ohio-based Master Chemical Corp.

The building will be 50,000 square feet in size, and employ 12 people when it begins operation in August, Master Chemical spokesman Mark Scherer told Lube Report. The company broke ground on the project in November.Master Chemicalopened a 20,000 square foot manufacturing and service facility in Shanghai in 2003.

All of our business in China is growing very rapidly, Scherer said. Although the Shanghai plant isnt all that old, were already getting close to capacity on that. The Shanghai plant also serves as a technical center forMaster Chemical distributors and customers in Asia.

The second plant is part of a large industrial complex. The northern part of China features awide mix of different industries, according to Scherer, including aerospace and automotive. You couldnt pick one of them and say thats the reason, for the growth in demand, he said, because there is so much growth in the general industry as a whole.

Demand for Master Chemicals Xybex coolant recycling equipment is also strong in China, Scherer added. Master Chemical will continue to make the equipment at a plant in Ohio. He said such systems are becoming popular in China as the government there begins to introduce more mandates pertaining to pollution levels, andwaste reduction.

They are concerned now, and they want to make the fluids last longer, which is also more economical, he said. So as companies start coming up with ways to waste less and pollute less, this is becoming a big industry as well.

Master Chemical’sspecialty metalworking fluids, cutting fluids, grinding fluids, milling fluids, concentrated washing compounds, cleaning compounds and rust preventives are marketedunder the Trim brand name.
