RohMax Oil Additives recently announced a price increase on its lubricant additives, and BASF said it would raise prices in some regions for polyetheramines used in additives.

On Aug. 28 RohMax Oil Additives said it would hike prices worldwide effective Oct. 1 for its entire lubricant additives product range, upping them by 8 percent to double-digit percentages, depending on product. A few increases reach the 15 percent range, and in individual cases even above 15 percent, Waldemar Bartoschik, vice president of customer relations, told Lube Report.

According to RohMax, it has endured, an unprecedented and unremitting escalation of key raw materials, energy and transportation costs. In this challenging environment and despite their best efforts to mitigate the increases, RohMax were forced to carry out a complete review of their global selling prices.

Headquartered in Darmstadt, Germany, RohMax is a subsidiary of Essen, Germany-based Evonik Industries.

BASF on Aug. 29 stated that effective immediately, or as existing contracts permit, it will increase prices for polyetheramines in Asia, Europe and South America by $220 per metric ton or 150 m/t for the entire portfolio. BASF had a similar price increase for polyetheramines in the North American Free Trade Agreement region effective Sept. 1.

Huntsman is the other major supplier of polyetheramines, which are used as carrier oils, detergents and dispersing agents in lubricants and fuels.
