In todays digital world, theres still a need for lubricants to keep fine mechanical watches on time. The Swatch Group on Thursday announced the acquisition of H. Moebius & Son, a Swiss supplier of lubricants and greases used in mechanical watch and clock movements. Terms were not disclosed.

Biel, Switzerland-based Swatch Group said it will continue to supply lubricant and grease products to existing Moebius customers via current distribution partners.

Previously owned by Gallien & Cie, Moebius is headquartered in Allschwil, Switzerland. Lubricants and greases offered by Moebius include watch and clock oils, general purpose mainspring lubricants, clock greases, silicone insulation grease, synthetic quartz oil, synthetic oils for watches and precision mechanics, and epilam coatings, which are surface treatments for watch components.

The takeover is ensuring that the expertise built up by Moebius is retained, and can be built upon in the long term, Swatch said in its announcement.

The Swatch Group is an international manufacturer and marketer of finished watches, jewelry, watch movements and components. The group supplies nearly all components required by its 18 watch brands, and Group companies supply movements and components to third-party watchmakers in Switzerland and around the world.
