ExxonMobil Research & Engineering Co. said this week that Calumet Specialty Partners has selected its proprietary lubricant catalyst technology for its Shreveport, La., facility. Calumet is completing a $220 million expansion of the Shreveport refinery and plans to ramp up production in the first quarter of 2008.

ExxonMobil R&E, based in Fairfax, Va., said Calumet will produce 8,600 barrels per day of high quality base stocks using ExxonMobils technology, including its trademarked MSDW catalytic dewaxing and Maxsat hydrofinishing catalysts, and corresponding reactor design. Calumet had previously announced that the upgrade would allow it to produce 6,000 b/d of API Group II base oils and 1,000 b/d of new wax volume.

In its last quarterly report, Calumet, headquartered in Indianapolis, said the expansion would increase the Shreveport refinerys total crude oil throughput capacity 35 percent, from 42,000 b/d to 57,000 b/d.
