Platinum Research Organization recently selected Chem Technologies Ltd. to produce TechroBond 280, a new additive for industrial greases that would be the eleven-year-old companys first commercial product.

John Jaeger Jr., president and chief executive officer of Platinum, said it plans to introduce the additive to the marketplace in the next several months. The relationship with Chem Technologies is strategic for Platinum, because Chem Technologies production capacity is easily scalable to meet our manufacturing needs for TechroBond 280 for the foreseeable future, Jaeger added.

Matt Hawkins, Platinums chief marketing officer, said one of its commercial partners introduced Platinum to Chem Technologies. Theyre accustomed to working with paste-like materials, which is what TechroBond 280 is – its not a liquid, its not a solid, its a paste, Hawkins told Lube Report. Theyre specialists at intertwining different kinds of materials, and we were impressed with how they could put our formulation together.

According to Platinum, TechroBond may be used as a substitute for molybdenum disulfide in grease. Canadian mineral exploration company MetalCorp has said that the price of molybdenum oxide has gone from $3 per pound to $30 per pound over the last two years due to strong demand and short supply.

Hawkins said the company has not publicly announced a release schedule for the new product. We wouldnt have announced this partnership if the launch wasnt imminent, he said. Through our global marketing and distribution agreement partner R.T. Vanderbilt, were confident the product will be on the market sooner rather than later.

Platinum, headquartered in Dallas, Texas, plans to have a full commercial roll out of universal grease products, suitable for applications in automotive, railroad, construction, manufacturing, aerospace and heavy engineering applications. This product [280] will be multi-purpose in nature, Hawkins explained. While not high temperature-related, it will still be multi-purpose to where it can reach most if not all of those industries and applications.

Chem Technologies is based in Middlefield, Ohio. Bonnie Stuck, Chem Technologies Ltd. senior vice president for technology, said the company has not done work in the lubricants and greases field before. This is a whole new area for our company, because we put together packages of chemicals that would go into the manufacture of anything from a tire to weather stripping, Stuck told Lube Report. We custom blend things together and put them in pre-weighted packages, mostly for the rubber and plastics industries.
