Castrol India Ltd. and Volvo Car India on Oct. 31 entered into a strategic partnership whereby all Volvo cars sold in India will be pre-filled with Castrol lubricants.

Under the deal, Castrol India will supply its highest quality lubricant product, Castrol Edge, for exclusive service fill to all Volvo dealers in India. Castrol Edge is a premium, high performance, fully synthetic oil in Castrols lineup of motor oils, the company says.

Volvo has partnered with Castrol globally and so when we launched Volvo cars in India, Castrol was our first choice, said Paul de Voijs, managing director of Volvo Car India. We are confident that Castrol India will provide us with the highest level of quality and product technology.

Volvo Cars was launched in India this past September. The Swedish automaker tested Castrol Edge for over 100,000 kilometers (62,500 miles) in field tests across India over a one year span before an agreement was reached.

Castrols width and depth of distribution will ensure that Volvo dealers are well supported across the country, Voijs said.

A.S. Ramchander, automotive director of Castrol India, said, Volvo Cars believes in responsible luxury and focuses strongly on safety. [That is] something that is very close to Castrol as well. Besides supplying products and services, we are also exploring possibilities of working together in the areas of safety and environment.

Castrol India Ltd. is 71 percent owned by Castrol Ltd., U.K., which is a part of BP. Starting off as a trading unit in India, Castrol India says it has grown to become the largest lubricant company in the retail automotive segment.
