Dow Hikes Biocide Price

Dow Biocides, a business unit of Dow Chemical, Monday announced it is raising list and off-list prices for its entire glutaraldehyde product portfolio, by 10 cents per pound in North America and 10 percent for the rest of the world. The price increase is effective today, August 1. Applications for the biocides include metalworking fluids, water treatment, sanitizers and preservatives.

According to Nanette Hermsen, global marketing manager for Dow Biocides in Buffalo Grove, Ill., the price change is driven by upward cost pressures in the market plus rising costs of regulatory compliance.

In addition to being non-corrosive to metal surfaces, glutaraldehyde is one of the few biocides that is readily biodegradable in accordance with OECD 301A and 306 guidelines. Dow’s glutaraldehyde products affected by the price increase are Uconex antimicrobials, which are registered for use in metalworking fluids; Ucarcide preservatives; Aqucar water treatment microbicides; and products sold under the Glutex, Ucarsan and Zoldine brands.
