Base Oil Price Report

Valero, SK and Chevron raised posted base oil prices the past week, rounding out a monster of a hike begun last month.

Valero raised its price Monday, imposing markups ranging from 25 cents to 29 cents per gallon. Though exceptionally sharp, those hikes were in line with action taken by ExxonMobil last week when it enlarged the East Coast premium that it charges for oils sold from a terminal in New Jersey.

SK imposed an across-the-board increase of 14 cents on its Group III oils, also effective Monday. Chevron raised its Group II postings Friday by between 15 cents and 20 cents, according to customers.

All other principal paraffinic suppliers in the United States had raised prices during the past few weeks.

Crude oil prices eased the past week. Prices on the New York Mercantile Exchange closed yesterday at $63 per barrel, according to Bloomberg. That was $4.77 lower than the price a week earlier.

Historic U.S. posted base oil prices and WTI and Brent crude spot prices are available for purchase in Excel format.
