Lubrizol Corp. said Monday that it has opened a laboratory in Shanghai to provide technical assistance to industrial lubricant additive customers. The company said it did so to meet a growing need in Chinas burgeoning lubricant market.

China is one of our most dynamic and growing markets, said Derek Phillips, industrial products manager in China. China presents some unique industrial lubricant issues, such as its material substrates and latest manufacturing practices. Our technical presence in Shanghai will allow us to work more closely with our customers to develop distinctive solutions.

Lubrizol, which is based in Wickliffe, Ohio, said the Shanghai facility can formulate and develop products and conduct physical and performance tests for metalworking fluids, greases, hydraulic oils and industrial gear oils. The company did not list the size or number of people employed at the lab.

The Shanghai lab is smaller than Lubrizols three main technical facilities, which are located in Wickliffe, Hazelton, U.K., and Kinuura, Japan. The company has numerous smaller labs around the globe.
