Torco Sues Former Licensee

Lubricant supplier Torco International Corp. said Friday that it has filed suit against a former licensee, General Sales and Service Inc., for continuing to use the Torco name.

Torco, which is based in Santa Fe Springs, Calif., said it told General Sales and Service to stop using its name July 20 but that the latter is still doing business as Torco Racing Fuels and selling products under the Torco brand name. The suit alleges that these actions are infringing on and diluting Torco Internationals trademark.

General Sales and Service, which is located in Decatur, Mich., declined to comment. According to a website which indeed identifies the company as Torco Racing Fuels Inc., it offers racing fuels and fuel additives under the Torco name, and is a distributor of Amalie and Lucas Oil automotive lubricants.

Torco International develops lubricants and chemicals marketed for racing motorcycles, cars, trucks, snowmobiles and watercraft. Its suit was filed in March.
