Intertek Purchases Parc


Parc Technical Services Inc. was acquiredby Intertek Caleb Brett, a leading provider of laboratory services to the oil and refining industries, the companies announced on Monday.Parc provides testing for refining processes and for automotive lubricants and fuels.

Intertek officials said they are especially attracted to the former part of Parcs business, provided through pilot plants that perform atmospheric and vacuum crude oil distillation, fluid catalytic cracking, hydrotreating and solvent de-waxing.

We provide a wide array of analytical testing, Intertek Caleb Brett Global Marketing Director Erik Halladay said, but we havent had the facilities to run tests on refining processes. Not very many companies have that capability, so were very excited about this acquisition.

Intertek Caleb Brett, a Houston-based subsidiary of London-based Intertek Group Plc., bought Parc from Gemini Holdings Inc., a private investment firm located in Pittsburgh. The companies did not disclose terms of the transaction.

Parc,based in Pittsburgh, was created in 1986 from the Gulf Oil Research and Development Company and purchased by Gemini 12 years later. Besides its pilot plants that test refining processes and catalysts, it operates facilities that offer a wide range of testing of engine oils, gear oils, lube additives and fuels.
