Rooney Ready for New Venture

Former 76 Lubricants President Garry D. Rooney is on the move again, this time with plans to start his own lube supply company. Rooney told Lube Report last week that he resigned his position as president of North American Lubricants Co. in February due to growing disagreements with ownership about how to run the business.

North American, which is based in San Juan Capistrano, Calif., announced March 22 that it has named Chuck ODonnell to replace Rooney. The 62-year-old ODonnell previously had stints at several companies in the industry, most recently with Rowley Wholesale.

Rooney had been president of North American since its formation in 2001. Prior to that, he had been president of Tosco Corp.s 76 Lubricants until Tosco merged with Phillips Petroleum Corp. Last week he said he has not decided exactly what his next move will be, but that he is close to doing so and expects to form a company that caters to the quick-lube market.
