German packaging company Mauser Group announced Aug. 29 that it has bought the blow-molding business of Hoover Materials Handling Group Inc. Mauser added that it has formed a new company, Mauser USA Inc., which plans to begin a broad capital investment program by the end of this year.

Hoover, which is based in Alpharetta, Ga., has been a licensee of Mauser blow-molding technology for approximately five years. The recent transaction includes production facilities in Mt. Vernon, Ohio, Anniston, Ala., Charlotte, N.C., and Pine Bluff, Ark. Those operations were merged with Mauser subsidiary Vanguard Container Corp. to form Mauser USA, which is also headquartered in Alpharetta.

This acquisition makes Mauser a significant force in this market in plastic drums, as well as IBCs [intermediate bulk containers], Mauser USA President and Chief Executive Officer Brian L. DeMoura said. And it truly positions us as a global supplier of industrial packaging.

DeMoura said the capital program would include investments in all Mauser USA assets and be aimed at expanding capacity as well as product offerings.
