Lubrizol Corp. last week elected board member James L. Hambrick president, succeeding William G. Bares who remains chairman and chief executive officer.

The 47-year-old Hambrick had been based in Singapore for the past two years, serving as vice president for the Asia-Pacific region. He was global business manager for engine oil additives from 1998 to 2000 and has been with the Wickliffe, Ohio, additive company since 1978, when heparticipated in a cooperative program while obtaining his chemical engineering degree from Purdue University.

Bares had held all three of his titles since 1996, when he succeeded Les Coleman as chairman and chief executive. Bares, who started at Lubrizol in 1963 as a development engineer, is 61 and will have to retire at 65 under a company policy.

This is simply part of our succession planning, a Lubrizol spokesman told Lube Report. Assistant Secretary Gregory R. Lewis was elected to succeed Hambrick as vice president for Asia-Pacific. He is 43 and joined Lubrizol in 1984.
