Chevron Phillips Chemical Co. announced on Monday completion of the low-viscosity polyalphaolefins capacity expansion at its Cedar Bayou plant in Baytown, Texas, adding 20 percent more capacity or about 10,000 metric tons per year. The company previously stated that the Cedar Bayou PAO expansion would raise capacity from 48,000 t/y to 58,000 t/y. Construction began in April 2016 for the expansion, which is to help meet increasing demand for high-performance lubricants in automotive and industrial applications. The new units feedstock will come from the sites recently completed 100,000 t/y expansion of normal alpha olefins capacity.
