STLE Names Anderson President

ATLANTA – Michael Anderson of Falex Corp. was appointed president of the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers during its annual meeting and exhibition held here May 21-25.

Anderson, who serves as area manager for Asia-Pacific and Latin America at Sugar Grove, Illinois-based Falex, was presented as the new head of STLEs executive committee for the year 2017-2018 during the Presidents Luncheon on May 23. He succeeds 2016-2017 president Ali Erdermir, a distinguished fellow and senior scientist at Argonne National Laboratory in Lemont, Illinois.

After receiving a bachelors degree of science in chemistry and business economics from Illinois Benedictine College, Anderson was hired by International Harvester Corp. to conduct physical and performance testing of petroleum products and automotive chemicals, according to TLT, STLEs official publication. In 1982, he joined the Keil Chemical Division of Ferro Corp. to work on product development and technical support.

Anderson was hired by Falex in 1984 as manager of technical services and held several positions within the company, including marketing manager, vice president of marketing and vice president of testing services. His current role makes him responsible for marketing Falexs tribology test equipment in Asia-Pacific and Latin America.

According to its web site, Falex was founded in 1927 and provides testing equipment and services to help companies in industrial applications – including aerospace, military, and manufacturing – evaluate the physical properties of lubricants, fuels and materials.

Anderson joined STLE in 1980 and held various executive positions with the associations section in Chicago beginning in 1981. From 1996 until 2001, he served as STLEs Midwest Regional Vice President and then as director until 2008. In 2014, Anderson joined STLEs executive committee, serving one-year terms as treasurer, secretary and vice president, according to TLT. He also holds a Certified Lubrication Specialist certification from STLE.

In addition to STLE, Anderson is active in a number of testing committees of ASTM International and is a member of the European Lubricating Grease Institute and the National Lubricating Grease Institute.

The other members of STLEs executive committee for the year 2017-2018 are vice president Greg Croce of Chevron Products Co.; secretary Michael Duncan of Daubert Chemical Co., treasurer Paul Hetherington of Petro-Canada Lubricants and STLE executive director Ed Salek.
