Whitmore Manufacturing Co. announced last week it will acquire Fluid Defense Systems LLC, a lubricant handling and contamination control company based in Illinois.

Rockwall, Texas-based Whitmore will add Fluid Defense to its list of subsidiaries, which includes mining, rail and industrial lubricants companies, Air Sentry contamination control, and Kats Coatings. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Fluid Defense Systems, known primarily for its OilSafe branded lubrication management system, makes oil and grease storage and handling equipment such as pumps and transfer containers, along with identification systems, spill control products and workstations. In Nov. 2012, the Montgomery, Ill.-based company introduced its OilSafe Work Center, a storage and filling station with color-coded tanks that have dedicated pumps and filters. Calling it the first scalable bulk system for complete, closed-loop lubrication management, OilSafe said the work centers dispensing equipment can integrate into existing systems to ensure the reduction of contamination and spills.

The synergy between the OilSafe system and our Air Sentry branded products is tremendous, Whitmores vice president of filtration and protective coatings, Scott Dunbar, said in a Feb. 5 press release. Air Sentry is a line of breathers that are designed to replace the breather cap or air filter on gear boxes, hydraulic fluid reservoirs, bulk storage tanks, oil drums, oil-filled transformers and more, according to Air Sentrys website.
