Metalworking fluids maker Chemetall yesterday announced plans to open a new $25 million chemical manufacturing plant on a 40-acre site in Michigan in October 2012.

The plant in Blackman Township will cover 200,000 square feet to house administrative, manufacturing, warehouse operations and a physical testing laboratory. The site will produce more than 900 Chemetall products for applications in surface treatment, metal fabrication, cleaning and sanitizing.

The labor force, along with strong support from the township and the state, made Blackman Township the most logical choice for our new plant, Ron Felber, CEO of Chemetall NAFTA said in a prepared statement yesterday. We have selected the best area talent to support our growing operations.

The company said automation advancements, including bulk material handling systems, mixing vessels and packaging lines, have been incorporated into Chemetalls Blackman Township facility to increase productivity as well as improve product yield and quality for customers. To improve environmental sustainability, Chemetall installed a semi-automated waste treatment system to reduce process wastewater by 90 percent.

Chemetall has developed, manufactured and supplied specialty chemical products since 1909. The company offers products ranging from metalworking fluids, drawing and stamping compounds to cleaners, rust preventatives and surface treatment chemistries.

Chemetall is based in Frankfort/Main, Germany, and its North American headquarters is in New Providence, N.J. It has additional locations in the Americas in California, Ontario, Sao Paulo Brazil and Mexico. Chemetall is a division of Rockwood Holdings, a global specialty chemical and advanced material company trader on the New York Stock Exchange.
