Chemical Prices on the Rise

Several chemical manufacturers recently outlined price increases for solvents and chemicals used in making lubricants.
Houston-based Kraton Polymers effective Feb. 1 will increase prices for SBS and OE SBS polymers in North America by $110 per metric ton or 5 cents per pound.
The polymers are used in lubricants and other applications ranging from personal care to paving.

Starting Feb. 1, Oxea will charge 5 to 10 cents more per pound on list and off-list prices for four solvents in the United States, Canada and Mexico. List prices will go up by $1.13 to $1.28 per pound.

In South and Central America, Asia, Africa and the Middle East, Oberhausen, Germany-headquartered Oxeas price hike will range from $110 to $220 per metric ton.

BASF of Ludwigshafen, Germany, raised prices Dec. 30 for three types of ethanolamines in Europe by 100 per metric ton or by the existing amount in local currency.

Ethanolamines are intermediates used in the manufacture of lubricants and surfactants, among other products.
