Free Oil Changes Bring Buyers

GM Korea offered a generous customer service program, including free oil changes for three years, when it introduced the Chevrolet brand to Korea earlier this year, and its working.

GM Koreas Chevy Care 3-5-7 program offers three years of free maintenance, including free engine oil changes, a five-year warranty, and seven years of free roadside assistance to all domestic consumers who purchase a Chevrolet vehicle through the end of this year.

Since the launch of Chevrolet, our sales have grown, and were sure the Chevy Care program played a big role, GM Koreas Jekong Chae told Lube Report. Domestic sales in May increased 21.1 percent from 10,246 vehicles sold in May 2010.

This is GMs first promotion offering three years of free oil changes, said Chae. Korea is a do-it-for-me oil change market. Most people visit a repair shop or service center to change their motor oil.

Under the Chevy Care program, consumers must take their new Chevrolets back to the dealership for maintenance. GM Korea has its own dealerships, and three independent retailers also have GM dealerships, Chae noted.

GM Korea uses Dexos2 oils for most diesel-powered vehicles, Chae continued. S-Oil is supplying the engine oils that GM Korea will provide under the Chevy Care program.

Koreas third-largest automotive company, GM Korea was formerly named GM Daewoo. It introduced the new company name and the Chevrolet brand at the beginning of March. Last week, GM Korea announced that it will spend U.S. $5 billion over three years to improve its vehicles and service.
