Oil-line Leak Prompts Recall

Navistar will recall more than 2,700 commercial trucks, buses and school buses because of the possibility a defective oil supply tube could leak and lead to an engine compartment fire.

Announced Monday, the two recalls include 2,309 commercial trucks and buses, and 416 school buses manufactured from February through September 2010.

The engine turbo oil supply line may interfere with the frame rail, possibly causing a high pressure oil leak in the engine compartment, Navistar stated in its initial defect information report to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The leak may cause a fire, possibly resulting in property damage, personal injury or death. There have been no field reports of fire or supply leaks to date, the company noted.

The recall calls for replacing the engine turbo oil supply line. The replacement will be free because all the vehicles are still within their original warranty period.

Navistar said it will mail owner notification letters by Jan. 1.
