In August, Chrysler will recallup to 22,379 model year 2010 Jeep Liberty and Wrangler, Dodge Nitro and Ram 1500 vehiclesbecause a brake tube issue could lead to a brake fluid leak.
Investigation determined that a small percentage of primary and secondary brake tube assemblies – which are attached between the master cylinder and the hydraulic control unit (HCU) – were experiencing pressure loss at the flared ends attached to the HCU. That situation could, after a period of time, lead to a loss of brake fluid and reduced braking performance, Chrysler explained in its July 7 defect information report to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
According to Chrysler, its Warren, Mich., truck assembly plant began to experience lower first time capability during the brake pedal push test on Ram 1500 truckson May 10. After subsequent investigation and presentation of data to the Chrysler Vehicle Regulations Committee June 29, the committee decided to conduct a voluntary safety recall.
In June, Chrysler recalled 288,968 model year 2007 to 2010 Jeep Wrangler sport utility vehicles because of a problem with fender liners contacting brake tubes, and possibly causing a brake fluid leak.
