Neste Oil last week started a planned maintenance turnaround at its Porvoo, Finland, refinery, which includes a base oil plant with 4,670 barrels per day of API Group III capacity.

The maintenance work began April 6 and will continue about four weeks, Neste stated. Following that, the refinery unit start-ups will take another week.

The Porvoo refinery maintenance turnaround includes the base oil unit, and we are making a normal turnaround maintenance and catalyst change in the base oil unit, Virpi Saranpaa, Neste Oils vice president of base oils, told Lube Report.

The firm estimated the turnaround will involve close to a million man-hours of work and will employ outside contractors on the site. During the turnaround, Neste plans to sell products from its storage tanks.

The Porvoo refinerys previous major maintenance turnaround at Porvoo took place in 2005, Neste said, in keeping with a schedule of performing them every four to six years. The companys next major turnaround will be at its Naantali, Finland, refinery in 2012.

Neste commissioned the Porvoo refinery in 1965. The location has about 1,000 employees.
