Berryman said she is keen to support the lubricants industry through the transition to alternative fuels, the implementation of Euro 7 automobile emissions standards and to maintain VLS’s track record in addressing non-compliant lubricant products and trading practices.

“VLS has an important role to play in helping lubricant manufactures and marketers to navigate a complex and changing market,” Berryman said in a VLS news release. “We must also continue to support and educate end users by upholding industry standards, ensuring that retail consumers are protected and that workshops can fit products with confidence, whatever type of vehicle or engine they are working with.”

She noted that VLS has already received a record number of complaints this year, demonstrating the impact of complexity in a changing market. “Our role to ensure products are brought into compliance and can deliver what they claim is more important than ever,” she said.

Berryman officially became chair at the VLS annual general meeting on Sept. 22.

VLS Company Secretary David Wright thanked Bewsey for his support for VLS during the past eight years. “We look forward to working with Jacquie and continuing VLS’s work to ensure consumer confidence and trust in the U.K. lubricants industry,” Wright said.

A subsidiary of UKLA, VLS is a membership organization, funded by its members and by the case charge levied in connection with each case raised. Membership is open to any lubricants manufacturer, marketer or associated user or seller operating within the U.K. lubricants marketplace. VLS responds to complainants by independently investigating and checking compliance to industry standards and performance claims within the U.K. marketplace.
