Eni Lube Sales Shrank in 2022

Italian energy company Eni said in its annual report that its wholesale lubricant sales in Italy fell 38% and that its combined retail and wholesale sales of lubricants outside Italy declined 27% last year.

The company’s wholesale lubricants sales in Italy dropped to 50,000 metric tons last year, compared to 80,000 metric tons in 2021. Such sales were also at the 80,000 tons mark in 2020.

Its combined retail and wholesale lubricant sales outside of Italy slipped to 80,000 metric tons, compared to 110,000 metric tons. In 2020, such sales totaled 90,000 tons.

At the end of last year, Eni’s retail network in Italy consisted of 4,003 service stations, down from 4,078 at the end of 2021. In the rest of Europe, Eni’s retail network consisted of 1,240 units, up by four.

Eni makes and sells automotive, industrial and marine lubricants, along with greases and lubricant additives.

The company’s research center in San Donato Milanese has laboratories featuring advanced equipment for studying, developing and fully identifying characteristics of raw materials for high performance lubricants. Inline with the company’s marketing strategies, Eni’s research involves collaboration with machinery manufacturers, regulatory authorizes and several Italian universities.
