Master Fluid Acquires Wilhelm Dietz

Master Fluid Solutions announced on Oct. 7 the acquisition of German metalworking fluids manufacturer Wilhelm Dietz GmbH, saying it will enable products that it sells in Europe to be made in-house instead of through toll partners. Terms were not disclosed.

Perrysburg, Ohio-based Master Fluids is primarily a metalworking fluids manufacturer with production facilities in the United States, the United Kingdom, China, India and Thailand. Wilhem Dietz primarily makes fluids for pipe and tube expansion, cold forming, corrosion protection and other metalworking applications under its Wedolit brand name.

Master Fluid President, CEO and board member Michael McHenry said in a news release that the agreement contributes to our strategic goals in Europe, adding an experienced team, a German manufacturing location and complementary products to our portfolio.

In 2017 Master Fluid adopted a strategy to double the size of its business within five years and focus its resources in certain geographic regions, Global Vice President for Strategy and Marketing Ahmed Tahir told a reporter. Weve historically served Europe with a local sales and service team with products manufactured at toll partners, Tahir said. With the acquisition of Wilhelm Dietz, we benefit from an owned manufacturing facility that will absorb our current toll production, supported by an experienced and knowledgeable team that can continue to help us be the partner of choice for customers with demanding applications. Wilhelm Dietzs site in Dusseldorf-Benrath will become Masters European headquarters, he noted.

According to Wilhelm Dietzs website, the company was founded in 1937 in Dusseldorf-Benrath as an oil trading company. It then transformed in 1957 into a supplier of specialty lubricants for the tube industry. In 1980, the company built a plant for lubricant production, and it adopted the Wilhelm Dietz name in 1988.

The German companys manufacturing facility is in a prime location to serve all of Europes industrial manufacturing centers with Germany, U.K., France and Italy as our focus markets, Tahir said.

The Wedolit brand has an extensive range of products for the metalworking industry in forming, pipe and tube expansion, rust and corrosion control, wire drawing, cutting and grinding operations, according to Tahir. They offer a complementary portfolio to Masters for pipe and tube expansion, rust and corrosion control, forming and wire drawing, he said. A significant number of Wedolit products have industrial OEM approvals that are also complementary to the current approvals for Master products. In addition, they have a portfolio of water-based cutting and grinding fluids that adds to our existing product portfolio in Europe.
