Uzbek and Central Asian lubricant demand is set to double by 2040, as the region’s industry and increasing number of vehicles are poised to consume more oils, an industry event heard recently.

European Grease Output Fell in 2020

Lubricating grease production in Europe fell 7% in 2020, according to the latest survey by the United States-based National Lubricating Grease Institute. The relative use of various types of thickeners was little changed from 2019 as the portion of products thickened by conventional or complex lithium soaps dipped from 70% to 69%.

Fire Strikes Infineum Plant

A fire occurred June 17 at Infineum’s lubricant additives manufacturing plant in Cologne, Germany. No one was injured, but the company said today that it is still assessing damage from the incident. The facility is one of three manufacturing sites that the company operates in Europe.

Chevron Marine Lubricants announced June 15 that it will boost its presence in African ports after extending its joint venture with Casablanca, Morocco-based Akwa Group. Chevron is now an equal partner in Afriquia Lubrifiants, with plans to extend its blending, distribution and marketing business beyond Morocco to markets in sub-Saharan Africa.
