Japan to Develop Base Oil Rerefining

Eneos Corp. is conducting a two-year study on recycled waste lubricants to help establish supply of rerefined base oil in Japan, the company said in a press release last month. The study is commissioned by the country’s Ministry of the Environment.

Japan Lube Consumption Falls

Finished lubes consumption in Japan fell 7%, while production edged up 3% in July, and lubricant imports fell more than 50%, compared to the same month last year, according to data released Wednesday by the Japan Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

Raw Material Costs Hinder AP Oil’s Profits

Singaporean independent lubricants blender AP Oil reported that its net profit dropped 39% to Singaporean $1 million (U.S. $714,000) for the six months ending June 30, citing the impacts of inflation and rising raw material prices.
