Japan Lubes Output Keeps Climbing

Japan’s lubricant consumption and production were both higher in July than in the same period last year and remained ahead of the pace of the same month in 2019. Consumption was 23% higher than July of 2020, while production increased 6%.

China Center to Develop Additives, Lubes

An independent Chinese refiner and an academic institution have agreed to establish a research center to develop lubricant additives and specialty finished lubricants. The goal of the project is to help reduce China’s reliance on foreign suppliers for such products. The center will be located in Shandong province.

Yushiro Profits Skyrocket

Metalworking fluids and industrial lubricant producer Yushiro Chemical Industry reported a massive increase in operating income – back to near pre-pandemic levels – and higher sales for the quarter ending June 30, compared to the same period in 2020.

Indian Oil Corp. Ltd. awarded Chevron Lummus Global LLC a contract for a new 270,000 tons per year catalytic dewaxing unit and hydrocracker revamp as part of Indian Oil’s petrochemical and lube integration project in Gujarat, India. The project, for which Indian Oil has not yet announced a schedule, includes construction of several new units, including a base oil plant with capacity to make API Group II and III base stocks.
